Australian Kitchen Industires (AKI) is Australia’s largest kitchen design, manufacturing and installation company, operating in four states with manufacturing facilities in three. Across its three kitchen brands of Kitchen Connection, Nobby’s and Wallspan, the company employs more than 450 people and generates over $70 million in sales. AKI was originally formed as a result of the acquisition and merger of a number of independent kitchen companies funded via the Colonial First State Private Capital Fund. In 2002 the company embarked on an aggressive and ambitious plan to double sales within three years to $120 million. An important part of this plan was to build an eLearning platform that would encourage a climate that fosters individual talents and provides an opportunity to contribute ideas that support the business strategy.

In March 2003, Workstar and AKI launched HEART (Human Excellence And Resource Toolbox). HEART offers both online enterprise training and traineeships and is arguably the most comprehensive learning and development program ever seen in the kitchen industry, worldwide.
